THE IDEA

A new layer over memory.

An old copper mine is imagined as a museum and retreat. Stone, timber and copper connect the ruin to a contemporary structure; paths through the landscape link accommodation, wellness and spaces for meditation.

Project status: A 2023 competition proposal. The images depict a proposed intervention in the former mine.
Role: Concept, diagrams, visualization and presentation.

Intervene without erasing memory.

This competition proposal imagines a museum and retreat in an old copper mine in Allihies. The existing ruin is the starting point; stone, timber and copper connect the inherited fabric with a contemporary structure.

Preserve, insert, envelop.

The exploded study distinguishes the ruin, new interior levels and a lightweight outer layer. The visualizations explore the contrast between the weight of stone masonry and the transparency of the inserted volumes.

The landscape is part of the program.

Paths connect accommodation, wellness and meditation across the site. Plans, diagrams and views explain the relationship between the buildings and the landscape. This is a collaborative competition proposal from 2023, with full credits on this page.
